Dr. Konita Wilks, DDS 

Dr. Konita Wilks is involved in pediatric dentistry with an emphasis on special needs kids. She received her B.S. in Political Science from the United States Naval Academy and went on to serve seven years as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy. In 2011, Dr. WIlks graduated with honors from the UCLA School of Dentistry (UCLA Alum! Woo!)  and is a member of the National Dental Honor Society. She completed a General Practice Residency at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center where she treated adults and children with developmental disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy, Down’s Syndrome, and traumatic brain injury.

 

Dr. Paul Glassman, DDS, MA, MBA

Dr. Paul Glassman is the director for the Pacific Center for Special Care at UOP. He serves as the school's director of community oral health and is a professor in the Department of Dental Practice.  He is a nationally recognized expert in oral health care for people with developmental disabilities and complex medical conditions. Dr. Glassman is a former president of the Special Care Dentistry Association, an international organization dedicated to improving the oral health of people with special needs. He has participated on many national commissions and contributed to formulating oral health policy including his service on the Institute of Medicine's committee on Oral Health Access to Care.

Dr. Jay Kumar, DDS, MPH

Dr. Kumar is a board certified specialist in dental public health and a former director and president of the American Board of Dental Public Health. Before joining the California Department of Public Health, he

was state dental director in New York where he held multiple positions. He directed the New York State

Dental Public Health Residency Program and was Associate Professor at the School of Public Health,

University at Albany.

 

He has served as a consultant to many national and international organizations including the Centers for

Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research, NIH, Health

Resources Services Administration (HRSA), the American Dental Association (ADA), Health Canada, and the National Research Council (NRC).

Dr. Kumar has spearheaded efforts to address challenging issues in prevention and access to dental

care. Throughout his career, he has combined administrative, research and teaching responsibilities. His contributions include the development of programs such as school-based interventions, case

management models, technical assistance centers, and professional training programs. He was instrumental in formulating the guidelines for the use of fluorides, sealants and infection control in dental offices.

 

His publication, Geographic Variation in Medicaid Claims for Dental Procedures in New York State: Role

of Fluoridation under Contemporary Conditions has led to an innovative financing solution using Medicaid

funds to support community water fluoridation in New York State. Dr. Kumar has also championed efforts to address oral health problems in pregnant women and young children by developing practice guidelines and facilitating the development of a national consensus statement. His efforts to bring about system- level change in the care of pregnant patients in perinatal and dental practices by developing guidelines, standards, quality measures and partnerships have been emulated by several state and national organizations.

Dr. Maritza Cabezas, DDS, MPH

Dr. Maritza Cabezas, for the past 6 years, is the Dental Director for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, responsible for directing all dental public health activities in the County of Los Angeles. Los Angeles County is the most populous and most diverse county in the US, with a population estimated to be more than 10 million. As part of her role with the County, she is highly involved with the water fluoridation project and has been on numerous committees and given many lectures throughout the Country promoting awareness of oral health, especially for the minority and underserved populations of LA County.

 

She obtained her dental degree from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil and is licensed by the California

Dental Board. She has a Masters’ degree in Dental Public Health from the University of Michigan and

completed a Dental Public Health residency at the University of California, San Francisco. She has

published on peer reviewed journals and has received many recognitions and awards for her efforts to promote oral health and improve the health children and families in Los Angeles County.

Dr. Cabezas founded the Oral Health Section of the Southern California Public Health Association and

has served as president, the first dentist ever elected to that post.

 

She is currently serving as vice-chair of the Center for Oral Health Board. The Center provides expertise

in policy development, demonstration projects, and technical assistance to help public health leaders to

improve oral health systems for the public.

She is involved with many different committees and appointments. Appointed an Adjunct Faculty at

the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, member of the Los Angeles Citizens for Better Dental

Health, Oral Health Access Council member, Valley Care Community Consortium, AIDS Education and

Training Center for Southern California (AETC), LA Trust Expert Advisory Committee, California Dental

Association Interdisciplinary Committee member, Perinatal and Infant Oral Health Quality Improvement

(PIOHQI) and Project Advisory Board, and California Department of Public Health Oral Health Program

Advisory Committee.

 

Dr. Ronni Brown-Kimbrew, DDS, MPH

Dr. Brown-Kimbrew graduated dental school from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and obtained her Masters degree in Public Health (MPH) from UCLA. She completed a residency in Dental Public Health from the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry (UCSF). She was the principal investigator on a large-scale research project investigating the oral effects of methamphetamine in response to drug-use patterns and dental care access in methamphetamine users, which was published in the Journal of the California Dental Association (CDA). She is a member of the Speaker’s Bureau with the CDA and presents continuing education courses on “Meth Mouth” and “Evidence-based Dentistry”. Dr. Brown-Kimbrew has been a faculty member at Diablo Valley College, Department of Dental Hygiene, teaching community oral health and at UCSF School of Dentistry as a 3rd/4th year clinical instructor. She has provided lectures in quality assurance and dental public health to undergraduate dental students at UCLA. Currently, Dr. Brown-Kimbrew directs dental services for California Forensic Medical Group at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility and is developing policy recommendations to improve access to comprehensive dental services for inmates detained at county jails throughout California.
